Developmental Red Flags

A delay in development may interfere with your child's abilities to develop physically, and social-emotionally.  If your child is experiencing and of the following 'Developmental Red Flags,' Champion Pediatric Therapy can help!

 

Infants and Toddlers

(0-36 months)

  • Startles easily
  • Poor eye contact
  • Doesn't notice own hands
  • Lacks movement or slow to move
  • Low muscle tone
  • Avoids tummy time
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Unable to soothe
  • Startles easily
  • Keeps hands fisted often
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Reflux or Colic
  • Difficulty grasping objects
  • Resists being held or cuddled
  • Sensitive to food textures
  • Sensitive to loud noises
  • Doesn't bable or attempt to imitate sounds

Preschoolers

(3-6 years)

  • Low muscle tone; appears weak
  • Clumsiness - often falling or tripping
  • Picky eating
  • Difficulty using utensils or straws/cup
  • Tires easily
  • Avoids playground activities
  • Avoids age-appropriate play
  • Walks on tip-toes
  • Often bumps into things
  • Dislikes bathing, grooming, haircuts
  • Difficulty self-soothing
  • Difficulties coloring or holding crayon
  • Flaps hands or jumps in place often
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Sensitive to or avoids certain clothing/tags
  • Overly active, unable to settle down

School-Age

(6+ years)

  • Difficulty with focus/attention
  • Difficulty with multiple step directions
  • Struggles to interact socially with peers
  • Very rigid; difficulty with transitions
  • Illegible handwriting
  • Reverses letters during handwriting
  • Struggles to learn new skills
  • Poor coordination
  • Avoids physical education/sports
  • Overreacts to touch, taste, sound, light
  • Sensitive to or avoids certain clothing/tags
  • Dislikes hugs or haircuts
  • Constantly moving, difficulty settling down
  • Poor eye contact
  • Picky eating
  • Poor self-esteem; lacks confidence
